what makes golf difficult is the swing and the lack of people willing to make a conscious effort to improve.
I understand moving the pin around to prevent uneven wear and tear. So when I play a course(exec)where conditions warrant I utilize free choice and a 2 putt rule. On championships it depends on whether or not there is betting involved. If not then 2 putt rule.
The holes rarely need to put placed on ridges and when the green speeds are high it is up to the person who places pins to make sure the ball won't excessively past the hole if moving at a proper pace.
