Much appreciated.
Most current golf carts are 48 volts. Each cell of a lead acid battery is two volts. Thus if you look at a 6 volt battery it will have three fill caps-3 cells x 2 is 6 volts. Common ways to achieve 48 volts is 4 12 volt batteries, 6 8 volt batteries or 8 6 volt batteries. It is more than the voltage that gives you the range-run time. It is also how much current the batteries can hold ampere hours. You can think of it as the size of the bucket or perhaps the size of the gas tank.

The question of using 6 8v or 8 6v is not a simple either or.
Assuming you now have 6 8v, installing 8 6v batteries may require expensive modification. More wiring, perhaps a new battery holder etc. Some batteries have more ampere hours than others. This is done by modifying the plates. Everything is a trade off. They must use thinner insulation between plates and that can make the battery more subject to shock and vibration.

It is worth the cost? Only you can decide. The longevity, useful life of a 12v,8v,6v lead acid battery will all be about the same.

Lithium Ion batteries are now becoming available for golf carts.
They cost more, have a longer life than lead acid batteries and store more current in the same space.
