My goodness your doc' is saying no ice, no way, no how... he must have a reason.
If the pain/swelling is more than you expected or more than what you feel the doc' lead you to believe it probably would be a good idea to talk to him about it.
Maybe the ice would interfere with the healing... maybe it would relieve the pain/swelling so much that you could move it in a way that would damage it because it is not fully healed.. Just guesses.
If you've lost confidence in your doc's competence maybe go to another doc'. Our neighbor had a knee replacement that was still painful and swollen months after the operation and her doc' kept telling her to wait some more. She finally went to another doc' who found the problem and redid the operation with excellent results.
But going 100% against your doc's orders without getting some advice from another doc'... yikes!!!
