You make an interesting point, with the older incandescent lamps, you would typically get half or partial illumination of the lamp depending on which function was activated. However with LEDs, they will not light for the sneak circuit that is created for a broken ground,so i suspect that on an LED based rear light, both lights would go out. I have not run across this yet, I may have to setup a test circuit to test this out.....
