I walked all over my area in Orange Blossom when I was down there in March and had no problem at all. I took the golf cart to find the pool, got lost and wandered aimlessly just to see everything (I like doing that) in the cart. I didn't see a single walker having any trouble at all. There were a couple of people on bicycles I worried about, but that's because OB is an actual HILL and in my mind, 70-somethings on bicycles might find riding uphill to be a challenge. Of course they proved me wrong.
No sidewalks, everyone rides, walks, bikes on the road. And everyone seems to have respect for each others' space.
As for Fenney and the rest of Southern Oaks, it was mostly still vacant and for sale when we did our Lifestyle visit, with many lots not yet built. I'm sure it's lovely now, and I know of at least one agent who works for the Villages and lives there now, and absolutely loves it there.
I think it's all about what you want from your home and your neighborhood. If you want something so new that it's not even finished yet, Southern Oaks is the place to be. You can watch the builds and be witness to its creation with a front-row seat. If you want something totally lived-in, that is in the process of evolution with new slowly replacing the old, OB is where it's happening. If you want to be surrounded by commerce but want your personal space somewhat distanced, I'd say the areas between Spanish Spring and Sumter is choice.
If you absolutely need a golf cart upon movein, I'd rule out Southern Oaks for now, and you can always revisit the idea once they finish the roads.
