Since this thread is going into the utilities bill angle I will address my fans.
A monitor has nothing to do with savings. I use it as an insurance against problems. Ever have a freezer break and not notice it? I get an email from the monitor telling me it hasn't run in a hour. Were you out of town during the last hurricane, could not reach anyone and wanted to ensure your renters we're safe, or home ok? Ever wonder if the salesman who tells you that this or that gadget will pay for itself in savings? Are you considering some improvement and wonder if the high efficiency model is worth it? Or do you ever want to bring value to a conversation on TOTV?
Well then a monitor will fit the bill and as a bonus you will be the envy of engineers everywhere.
