I tackled this problem and using the generous recommendation of someone in my Village of Dunedin, I purchased a Clearstream 4 with mount and a Winegard pre-amp.

I mounted in my attic above garage and aimed. Didn’t get much so I researched the antenna which led me to antennasdirect.com. The have a pointer app for iphone which I used and immediately got all the major stations except channel 2 - NBC which is still VHF.
I emailed antennadirect and they were quite responsive. The took my address, confirms distant and aim, and suggested adding a Clearstream C5 and a combiner which I have not done yet.

My suggestion is to start with antenna direct and see if they can offer a single antenna that will do both right up front.
Lastly, as mentioned previously, remember that you have to do a new channel search with each tweak.
