I think this is a catch-22. I agree that you should contact DMV, but even they may not give you the best answer. If you are not going to become a Florida resident, then I don't think you can get a Florida drivers license and, therefore, you cannot register a car in Florida. I would ask other snowbirds what they do. But, I think that most of them who have not become official Florida residents, will maintain their northern state drivers license and car registrations, even if they leave the car in Florida. There are a lot of cars with out-of-state tags being driven around The Villages for months at a time.
