I remember Al Michaels during the 1989 World Series when an Earthquake hit during the World Series game. Just terrible.

Most of my family and all of my inlaws live in SoCal. They've lived there all their lives. They all felt the earthquakes but the only real drama was with my mother inlaw thinking she was dizzy and ready to pass out from the rolling motion. Then she figured out it was just an earthquake. It was pretty much NOTHING for them. No damage.
I was still living in SoCal during the Northridge earthquake. That was a whole lot more than NOTHING.
You do have to hand it to Cali for their building codes though. An earthquake that would destroy parts of many countries produces (relatively) minimal damage in California.
