Along the lines of Paul Merriman (paulmerrimandotcom), I would look into John Bogle (bogleheadsdotorg).
Both advocate simple approaches to investing.
Merriman includes several model portfolios using low cots ETF's.
Bogle (recently passed) founded Vanguard
Neither charges a fee.
