However, I think it is fairly easy to prove that violence sells - makes money, and that is the reason there is so much violence in "entertainment".
A trend I find distressing is the books, movies, etc that make a person a hero who breaks the laws to achieve a "good" result. In other words the end justifies the means.
One of the two recent shooters said he was "defending" our country from the invasion of illegal immigrants. He was justified in killing all those people - in his own mind.

Violence does seem to be an indication of a real lack of imagination with some writers, movie directors, etc.
