I am a hunter and past member of NRA, and I intend to vote for Obama. As I've read his statements and reviewed his legislation it is clear that he is in favor of the basic right to bear arms. He has clearly spelled out his position on guns to Field & Stream:
“I am very mindful of the fact that sportsmen in America may have gone hunting with their fathers, their grandfathers, their mothers, their grandmothers, and that this is part of a tradition and a way of life that has to be preserved. And there’s nothing that I will do as president of the United States that will in any way encroach on the ability of sportsmen to continue that tradition.”
What he is against is illegal handguns that result in unnecessary violence in our cities. I think that is just being smart. Actually, its one of the reasons I dropped out of NRA -- I think they have gone over the line. We have a tremendous amount of violence in this country. Some common sense needs to be applied to who can carry guns, and what guns they can carry. Like, why does anyone need to carry an assault rifle?
