The problem is when you tell the cable company to disconnect their tv service they crank up internet price. Does anyone out there have good internet that can handle today's streaming requirements at a reasonable, fixed price?

If you want to mess around with it and keep your cable with the "new user" discounts they offer (they do have a "double-play" with only internet/TV) just sign up under your spouse or partner's email. After that "contract" runs out switch back under yours. Been doing that for over 20 years with no problem up north and now here. Currently under my 2nd 2yr contract here with Comcrap. The "new subscription" deals are quite often cheaper or close to the prices of the streaming services + internet. After 12 months you are again considered "new". They really don't care. DO everything online and not by phone or in their office.
