My father struggled with Alzheimers for more than a decade and would not take financial advice from anyone regarding protecting his assets. Unfortunate but that was his way, his way or no way.

Good on you. My personal story is similar. I started working part time bagging groceries at 14. Although I inherited very little many of my contemporaries have inherited meaningful sums.
