That's a good data point for that specific experience but in general it doesn't happen in that way. A couple days ago when some single performer singing jazz was onstage it was just as bad and I'm sure she didn't ask the volume to be turned up. Her mic was so hot that you could hear the hairs in her nose wiggling when she breathed across the street.
