However, eventually I followed my Managing Directors advice (the Wife!) and went for a hearing test.
As all the hearing aids I had researched online, were quite expensive ($3000 to $7000), I expected quite a hard sell experience!
But, the experience I had was anything but, with the specialist (John Hayden) even refusing to sell me hearing aids, until I had had time go away to think about it.
Since then, I have gone ahead and had some hearing aids and I have to say that the service, advice and guidance, I have received since then has been phenomenal.
Over the last month, I have been back to four appointments, to have them fine tuned as I (and my brain) got used to using them and at each visit I was shown more and more that I do to could control and use them!
This company and especially John Hayden deserve a full Five Stars for both product and especially service and advice.

Had to laugh about how the War Dept. (the wife) suggest to you to get hearing aids, mine too, but I kept telling her I heard perfectly. Well I heard when people talked to me but I didn't hear the words real clear. So like you I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars for hearing aids. so I took what my Ins. gave me for FREE. To make a long story short they helped but still didn't hear the word real clear, & in resturants it was worse. The reason was, cheap hearing aids just make things louder not CLEARER. So I bite my tougue & bought some expensive ones. WOW, they made words very clear, especially on the phone connected to Bluetooth. I can sit my phone down & walk 15 to 20 ft. away & talk in a normal voice & unbelievable they still can hear me as clear as day. I hated to talk on the phone, now I wish I could just call everyone & talk to them on the phone. It's like BOSE speakers. Once my brain got reprogrammed I hear everything & nobody has to repeat very often, but sometimes. So to answer your question all the cheaper hearing aid just are louder, & don't clear up words! Well you could buy some more expensive ones & if they don't work for you, then you'll know not to waste your time buying hearing aids that will break the bank. Go Luck, Junction29!
