I think the most important thing in the contract is that you don't pay for the work until it is completed and you are satisfied. You may need to agree to buy the paint, but, if you do, I would insist on paying for it with a credit card, and not until you have possession of the paint. The painter will probably provide some type of warranty, but, in my opinion, it won't be worth very much to you. You may also want to include a time frame for completing the job. Other than that, I don't think what you put in writing will have much value.
