The wife and I watched Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle last night at home and were struck again at what an entertaining movie it was. I'm fairly sick of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson being in absolutely everything these days but he was very good (and very funny) in this one. I've never been a big fan of Jack Black but he was fabulous as the spoiled girl character. Kevin Hart tends to be a single note in my opinion, and this was more of the same and yet fit well in the group. I always liked Karen Gillan in Doctor Who but she was just great in this film. I really wasn't sure how they would take the film any further so we went in to see Jumanji: The Next Level this morning with low expectations. They kept what worked from the first film but added a lot of pleasant surprises in the new one. The Danny Glover and Danny DeVito characters added some depth and seeing Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and (briefly) Karen Gillan take on new characters was a hoot. Also very good was Awkwafina.

In short, if you liked the last one, you're most likely going to like the new one about as much. Recommended.
