But — up north we have done a couple of big projects, involving general contractors — one a custom built house, one a major addition. We went under contract and we always got affidavits stating any sub-contractors had been paid in full. I have wondered if affidavits are ever a part of doing business in TV when doing projects involving subs under a general.
OP, I am so sorry you are going through this. Back home, I have always know a lot about whoever we hired. But that is not always easy in TV.

I agree with the concept of affidavits, but you need to know who the subcontractors are, and the affidavits need to be signed by the subcontractors. It they aren't, a subcontractor can just dispute the affidavit and put a lien on your house.
