Sort of true, so let's modify the statement to make it accurate.
"Regular" influenza can lead to a secondary
BACTERIAL pneumonia, which is what most victims die from, especially in 1918-1919 when there were no antibiotics.
COVID-19 can infect the lungs and give the victim a
VIRAL pneumonia, which is a totally different beast and can lead to ARDS, which is what eventually kills you
