The first personal computer was an Altair, introduced in 1975. Anyone who is 85 years old today would have been 40 years old then. That means they would have been working age. That also means they would likely have had some exposure to computers, even then. If you don't recognize that brand and are sure the majority of people would never have heard of it - that's fine. The next wave of personal computers was 2 years later with the Apple II in 1977.
Seniors who have had zero computer experience, at this point in technology, have chosen to have zero computer experience. Computer technology has been going on all around them for the past 50 years and in fact the inventor of the PC is older than most of them. So there's no "excuse" for Villagers to have no understanding of computers. You can even go to the Savannah center and use one of theirs to learn how, and there are computer clubs that are happy to teach you at any of their instructional meetings.
They don't know because they have chosen not to know. They've had 50 years to make that choice.
