Default National Competition to Help Animal Shelters during COVID-19 Crisis

YOUR Humane Society SPCA, along with many animal shelters across the nation, have had to cancel prominent fundraising events due to the Covid-19 outbreak. In light of this unfortunate event, we are proud to introduce a virtual fundraiser, MARCH MUTTNESS, where you can support animal shelters and groups throughout the country!

YOUR Humane Society SPCA is one of only eight excellent shelters from across the United States who will compete to raise the most for the pets in their care! This is an online fundraising event, so we hope to virtually gather hundreds of donors to rally to our cause. The other participating shelters include Spay-Neuter Animal Project (MI), Animal Rescue Foundation (AL), Paws Humane Society (GA), Chautauqua County Humane Society (NY), Seattle Humane (WA), Friends of Strays (FL) and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona (AZ).

The team that raises the most money over a 3-day period will move on to the next round until a champion is crowned in early April. The champion shelter will receive an additional $1,000 prize!

But win or lose, every shelter can earn money to support their pets. That's a lot of donations to animal shelters country wide that need your SUPPORT MORE THAN EVER NOW!

"We are so excited to be one of only 8 non-profit animal shelters in this nationwide contest and we'll need support across everyone's Facebook pages, NextDoor, emails and more. It may be called 'March Muttness' but it will help ALL the animals at our shelter and in our community. The longer we stay in the tourney with your votes, more animals will benefit locally. So we ask that everyone spread the word as we could become the March Muttness National Champion!" commented Claudia Labbé, Fundraising/PR Chairman for YOUR Humane Society SPCA.

March Muttness is the creation of the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Their Director of Development and Marketing and Communications, Randy Peterson, gave us this comment about the idea behind the contest. “We wanted to find a way to fundraise for the pets in our care while also acknowledging the toll this outbreak has had on all animal shelters across the nation. We hope this virtual fundraiser is a fun way to bring dollars back to the pets in need.”

“YOUR Humane Society SPCA’s share of the proceeds will benefit our overall operations which include routine and emergency veterinary care, our two public assistance programs of S/N vouchers and pet food and more” added Ms. Labbé.

How can you help?

To support our shelter with a donation in March Muttness, visit https://support.hssaz.org/campaign/March-Muttness-YHSSPCA-WarmUp-Round/c277995 as well as www.MarchMuttness.com and be a cheerleader by SHARING this virtual event via email and on social media. A preliminary seeding round will be live NOW through Tuesday while we drive up interest for this important fundraiser. The shelter with the most donations by Tuesday, March 24th at 11pm EST will receive a seeding round gift of $500!

Only the money raised within the listed time frames will count toward the contest but donations are always appreciated and needed. Donors will automatically receive a tax receipt for their online donation through the tournament's platform provider Classy and there is no upfront cost or fee for shelters to participate.

[I]YOUR Humane Society SPCA helps animals as Sumter County Florida’s oldest and largest no-kill shelter. Our mission is to protect animals and is carried out through direct care for animals that are injured, abused, unwanted, or abandoned, securing homes for as many as possible; and through community assistance programs including spay/neuter services and pet food distribution as well as providing humane education and pet safety information in order to reduce pet overpopulation and improve the quality of life for local animals. Donations directly help save, treat and care for them. Learn more about us at hsspca.org.
