As an example of why a non-mechanical senior citizen and his 16-year old granddaughter should not go car shopping together, I present the Sunbeam Imp (known as the Hillman in the UK).
It was several years old when we bought it in 1968 and it turned out that only three cylinders were working. Could not make it up a hill and spent a lot of the time I owned it in a specialty repair shop for foreign cars.
Fortunately I jazzed it up by adding a peel and stick red racing stripe over the top along with groovy flowered shelf liner on the inside metal door panels!
My current car is a 2011 Toyota RAV4 with about 2K miles and a Star Wars decal. Still sticking things on my car.
