Reporting by Coroners varies. HIPAA and other privacy laws affect how, where and what is reported. Families have some choices.
Just one example of which I’m sure there are many: When my wonderful step-Dad died in 2006, the rural Coroner (who also owns & operates the only local funeral home) tried to submit his death as COPD for which he was never even diagnosed. If we hadn’t had a letter from Mayo stating he had NK Leukemia and he died from it, his death would have been misreported. I think this type of thing happens all the time.
