I would do marble only if you want a formal decorating theme. I like marble and have it up north but here where I am trying to do a casual, cottagy, beachy feel, it doesn't work for me.

We have chosen to leave the poles area white, like the woodwork. It think it would break up the lovely impact when painted.We have painted the kitchen and hall Sea Teal and will paint the great room the next shade lighter. I will try to photograph ours, but we aren't finished painting yet. (Stopped for Thanksgiving)
