You cannot donate out-of-date items to food banks. They may not use it and will have to dispose of it.

Secondarily, old boxes of cake mix have shortening and they go bad. I've tried on several occasions to use an old mix and the resulting product is inedible. It may smell "off" when you open the mix, but even if it doesn't, when it's mixed with the liquids it takes on a rancid flavor.
