Your view of "reasonable" is not the same as most. The law gives us the right to defend ourselves to include using lethal force. That means the law is reasonable, therefore we are being reasonable if we abide by the law. The law does not mandate that you defend your family to include using lethal force, but gives one that option. You have the right to turn the other cheek, but does that also morally include giving up your second child or your wife after one of them is murdered? I guess that is something that you would have to "reason" out on your own.
