IMHO, there have been a few reports (sites like consumer reports, etc.) that indicate home warranties are not a good purchased, just like many extended warranties. Also, you need to very carefully check to see who THEY call for the repairs and how SOON they call. There have been many complaints that say your A/C goes out, and you do not get service man for 2 or 3 days or longer. If you self insure, you get your service person that day. When I looked at these I found way too many disadvantages, look very carefully at the fine print.
