I've had the privilege of knowing ONE true AFRICAN American police officer, and quite a few Black police officers. It's funny how I never really thought of them as black or white officers. I based my opinion of the men and women solely upon their job performance. But, take a Black officer and have them patrol a black community and that officer is no longer considered Black, but BLUE and no different than a white police officer to that community.
Maybe if folks would stop worrying about semantics when it comes to race and just start thinking of themselves as Americans, then a lot of this stuff would cease. One does not refer to themselves as European Americans to refer to the color of one's skin. I have a son-in-law that is a REAL African by birth. He lives in America and does not use the term African American. He just says "American." I am not saying that one must give up their supposed "culture or heritage" if they really think they know what their true genealogy is. I do suggest that if one wants to be accepted by ALL, then they might think about assimilating into the American culture and heritage. And yes, American is different than European, even if we speak the same language..........sort of.
