The are a few things that I'm curious about. I'd like to see the number of positive cases each day by county. It seems to me that the vast majority of cases are being discovered in Miami-Dade, Brevard and Palm Beach counties.
I also understand that the majority of new cases have been in the 18-40 year age group.
Could this be because when bars were re-opened that a lot of young people began going to bars while ignoring social distancing? Could some of the bar owners have ignored the maximum occupancy requirements in an effort to make up for lost business?
I also don't seem to be able to find the number of new cases by state as a percentage of the population. Florida is the third largest state in the country. It stands to reason that we'd have the third most cases, but we are fourth.
Another number that I've never seen is the number of people that have had the virus and have had recovered. How many "active" cases are there?
It seems that the more people that currently have the virus the more of a danger it is. But people that have had it and have recovered are no longer a danger. So far there have been about 3.2 million cases in the US, but that is a total number of people that have had it. It's a bit misleading because it makes it seem as though there are 3 million contagious people running around with the virus. Same thing for Florida. The have been 244,000 cases in Florida, but that doesn't mean that that many people still have the virus.
Older people are in greater danger of dying from Covid-19. It would stand to reason that Florida would have the highest percentage of deaths from the virus.
I'm not drawing any conclusions from any of this. I'm just saying that we're not being given all of the information, or many of us are missing much of the information that we need to form an opinion of what's going on.
Obviously, this virus is very serious. 180 countries around the world are treating it as such. But still, looking at bits and pieces of information and cherry picking certain numbers doesn't help anyone or anything.
Add to that the fact that it is in the best interest of the media to sensationalize everything and I have to question how informed we are.
