Even in small businesses, it's risky to mandate it (do a google search on "Karen dentist mask").

The best anyone can really expect is for employees to set the example, to REMIND customers that masks are strongly encouraged, pointing out where they can buy the masks right in the store for the next time they come in, and reminding the customers that they're going down the wrong way on a one-way aisle.

As an employee, I'm not interested in playing mask or aisle police. But I have no problem reminding them that complying with the guidelines is appreciated and encouraged, and thanking my customers who DO comply.

And if you see any actual Karens (not just people who don't comply but people who make a HUGE deal about their refusal to comply) - there's always cell phone cameras and twitter.
Who has a larger customer base than WalMart? No other retailer. This should have been done three months ago with all big box stores and any indoor store. Lives would have been saved and the coronavirus, for the most part, put to bed. Just my humble opinion.
