To get the best filtering, the mask must be made of NON-woven material. Woven fabrics are like fish nets.
Shopping is not going to get you infected unless you stop and chat with someone for an extended period of time that is infected. Walking past someone that is infected is not going to get you infected. That's why being outside is not considered really dangerous unless you are standing close and chatting for an extended time.
