Is it for meat? Is it for something to do?

I think it is wrong to kill dogs but if you are starving and no other choice to be had could understand that. As the old movie went "They shoot horses, don they".

Here dogs are pets in Asia they are often a source of meat. Not saying it is right just what happens.
Yes, that's correct. Also, although South Korea, Singapore, and many other Asian countries do not feature dog meat, keep in mind that in the Asian culture it is not the taboo it is here in the U.S. and in north America in general (though I have seen it in Mexico in a far southern state). Just as some cultures would look at our consumption of cows/cattle shocking, we would of course find the consumption of cat and dogs shocking. China still (as I understand from someone still living there with our former international company) sells both live and slaughtered dogs in the meat markets. And, in those Asian countries that are more "progressive", like I mentioned South Korea, there is probably some portion of the population that prefers dog, even horse, meat, but not the norm like in China, North Korea, and a few others (not all Asian either). Considering how human beings are treated there, I doubt we could ever cause enough "back lash" to change anything, but, that's not to say "don't at least try". These folks do not have the luxury of feeding an extra mouth as a "pet". Remember just 6-8 months ago when Venezuela was suffering from their "dictator", how the zoos closed and all the animals "disappeared" ? What a lovely country that was once, guess I'll never get to go there again, used to love it there !
