Spray on the weeds because, like round up, it kills everything. Do it in the morning on a hot day, with no rain, and you will see things die pretty quickly. Preen keeps seeds from emerging and is very effective. I never use salt. It remains in the soil and cannot be removed. The black weed barrier does not allow water to penetrate properly, that includes, fertilizer, which can run off in different directions and not go where you want it to. Yes vinegar is a chemical but not like round up which can be very nasty to you and the environment.

I use the 30% vinegar straight up with a little dish soap to make stick to the weed leaves. Works great, but the smell is nasty and lasts until a good soaking rain.
