By multi family I mean a home built with a separate area that is a suite for a child (age 30-50) of the homeowner. Also I'm thinking if your child lives with you, they should have a separate entrance and a kitchenette (just a microwave, refrigerator and sink).
Thank you - MarvinH
Looking at a list of all the homeowners in my village suggests that more than 10% of villagers have an adult child living with them. In many cases, the parent or parents are in their 80s or older, and the “child” is 60 or so. I like to think that this is an unmarried child who has moved in to care for his or her parent or parents in their declining years. Or perhaps the unmarried child has always lived at home for various reasons. I like the idea of the self-sacrificing child caring for mom or dad. Children like that don’t need their own entry or cooking area because they are dedicated to serving their parents.

The Villages is nearly crime free, but what crime there is often seems to involve grown children living with parents, and it seems to usually involve alcohol abuse, drug abuse, DUI, or shoplifting. (That’s also what it involves usually when it’s not children causing the trouble.) I understand the desire to rescue a troubled child, but I can’t claim to like having that sort of person living in The Villages. It’s so difficult for parents! Such a heartbreak! I tend to think that if parents want a separate entrance and cooking facilities for a child, they might do better to buy a larger house in, say, Ocala that could easily be adapted for such needs, and for a lot less money. There are lots of very nice houses for sale there. They also have more parking available. They just aren’t in The Villages, so they don’t have our amenities. But that’s just me. Parents need to do the best they can, and they want to help their children. That’s just natural.
