There are quite a few floor plans where the guest wing comes off the foyer. Use the foyer as a vestibule and add a locking door at the end and you will have self contained guest quarters.
When looking for homes there were a few that were customized for an in-law suite. One did so with a side door for the in-law suite entrance, but you could get to the rest of the house from inside.
