I'm afaraid I have to disagree with you Novelchick. My dog is part of my family unit and I will not ban him to a room when company arrives. He would probably approach for a sniff ,perhaps expect a pat and then ignore the company for the remainder of the visit.
Common sense only applies when someone is afraid of dogs...then I would not have my dog around during a visit...if you simply do not like dogs then it is your choice on whether or not to visit a dog owners home.
