We had 3/4 of our house done. Went right over tile with cortec plus(cork backing) vinyl plank flooring. Bedrooms with carpet got backer board to even out the floor with tile.
All in all it was a messy 4 day install(only 2 guys). They skim coat over grout lines so your tile is no longer good but who cares. I have lived in Florida my entire life and i absolutely hate floor tile and the dirty grout. We liked it so much we decided to finish the entire house. The 2nd install was 2 days, which in my opinion could have been done in one day. Some companies will not go over the tile. In my opinion only, this is a ploy to make more money. It will cost you a lot more to have them rip up the tile then it will to go over it.
Not to mention a huge mess. The dust was bad enough putting down the backer board, can't imagine it with them ripping up the tile. As far as hardwood, i am not a fan in Florida because of humidity. Plus the cost is huge. Good luck, and be prepared to sneeze a lot.
