That has been mentioned on this forum before.

Both Police and Military individuals at all levels have a tendency when putting on a uniform to take on an attitude of superiority. They can lose sight of humility and empathy. There are exceptions of course but these particular individuals covet power over others and the uniform gives them that power. Not saying that it is everyone or even rampant, but it does happen. After History like Jim Crow and current events like the Floyd murder, Black and Brown people are afraid of Police in uniform. Also Kent State with respect to the military.

In the future, when robotic Police are perfected, the fear of harm to themselves will be eliminated. They can be programmed with techniques of social science also. In the meantime, the combination of bad Cops and civilians with mental problems will persist. It is a problem that needs to be solved. The US needs to look at other more successful countries for answers. But, that rarely happens!
George Floyd had 2-3 times the lethal dose of fentanyl in his system when he died, as well as a long history of coronary artery disease. He was a dead man walking before he attacked the police. Many such doped-up individuals are exceedingly violent, and have the strength of several large adult males. They often can "come back to life" after being pronounced dead at the scene several minutes beforehand, only to kill an unsuspecting EMT, LEO or medical attendant. It is possible the officers involved were afraid of this while he was being held down.

It's easy to judge and not put yourself in the officer's shoes. Today, the officer is immediately declared guilty by news media and interested parties. No one but a Police Officer is declared a murderer before being tried and convicted. With the current situation as it is, despite significant evidence to the contrary, he may be sacrificed in the name of social justice.

Being a Police Officer today is a no-win situation. Most become LEOs because as children, they have dreams of saving lives and protecting the innocent. The disillusionment comes with brutal working conditions, the horrible things they have to see and deal with day after day, and constant criticisms by sidewalk superintendents who have never done anything for anyone but themselves.

This is why there is a mass exodus from the LE industry. God help us when the ROBOCOP scenario comes to fruition and the humanity is stripped from our protectors.
