I have the priority membership to all championship courses and only get to play golf a dozen times a year in TV. I am not even there during February or March. Seems like a waste of money? Not really. When you look at the cost of golf in TV compared to anywhere else, it is very cheap. I also belong to a private club in Northern Virginia. My monthly fee even in the winter when I can't play is more than the annual fee there.
There are plenty of great courses within TV and many more within a short drive. I used to play Torre Pines just North of San Diego. Public course and does not take tee times. So one member of our foursome got up at 2 AM every Saturday morning, went to the course, put our golf bags in line, and went back to sleep in the car. And yes there was a line at the ungodly hour. So why not have one member of your foursome, log on at midnight and make the tee time. Rotate who does it and enjoy the game. And if you don't get the time, drive a few miles and play some courses off the reservation. Golf there is very cheap so take advantage of it and play lots of places. When the snowbirds and renters leave, go back to the executive courses when your choices are more.
