Assuming you have the batteries to hand, it takes a few minutes to do the whole house and is hardly a life-threatening exercise for many in The Villages.

Yes, many of us do need them to change out our batteries and it is a service they gladly give to us. That does save lives and it is life-threatening if you have a fire and your smoke detectors are not working.. My neighbors are older than I am, I have vaulted ceilings so need a 8 foot ladder and suffer from vertigo so if I did it myself would fall, I live alone, so who would find me? It is a service they provide. I agree if you have regular height ceilings you can do it yourself, but high ceilings it's too dangerous for me and for my neighbors. I'm amazed anyone would even complain about this. There is a reason the fire department offers this service, it is to save lives and homes. Let them do their work protecting us.
