You didn't say which county you are in (Sumter, Lake, or Marion). I can only comment on Sumter. At a minimum, I would expect you to see a $50K homestead exemption on the County Tax and a $25K exemption on the School Tax. At the current millage rates that should amount to about $450 per year less total tax. You may have other exemptions. Once homesteaded, there is also a cap on how much your assessed value can rise each year. Someone in the County tax office can provide you with a better estimate.
