Sounds expensive for sure but without full specs you can't be sure as it also depends on TYPE of tank if gas. Some are 2-3x more than others (excluding tankless) so it also depends on exactly what the OP was quoted on vs. what everyone else is getting. Of course there was capacity differences but very important was hot water recovery time. The fastest recovery tanks were over 2x the price of the lowest end ones. Then there was different venting types, higher efficiency and on and on so like everything else saying "I paid $XX" or "they quoted $xx" is meaningless unless you are comparing apples to apples unless here in FL there is only one type you can buy which is doubtful.
