I recall reading about a rash of Trane A/C coil problems for units installed in the 2004-2006 time frame. There were implications of a bad batch of coils that would freeze up and/or leak. It sure sounded like an issue with defective parts. It would be worth it to press Munns and Trane on the issue and perhaps see if the Villages Warranty Dept can give you any assistance. If this is a documented defect, perhaps they will cover the entire repair.

I first learned of this a couple of years ago on the Virginia Trace website (many of these homes were built during this problem phase). That motivated me to pay the $600 for the extended 10 year parts and labor warranty.
