In just the last week I have learned of three deaths; one a teacher and former student of mine; one a former college classmate and friendly competitor when we both coached high school basketball in the same conference; and another a long time family friend. I don’t know if my experience is common, but I am certain it is not unique. I am happy we are beginning the vaccine process, but until immunity is pretty universal, I implore everyone to be careful and vigilant. I do not want to add a TOTV friend to my list.

I too was a casual acquaintance of the 1st Villages covid victim. My brother is currently in ICU after almost waiting too long to get medical attention and looks to be recovering. We hope his side effects are few. Bro in law was moderately ill with flu symptoms. We had to quarantine and get tested, negative. We're careful, don't take unnecessary risks and try to remember to respect distancing, but we're still out there. I'm so fortunate to be living in a place that's not suffocating our livelihoods. I think we can survive without adding hurt to those trying to support families.
