To all of you that know no one that has tested positive for covid-19 or haven't lost anyone due to the virus...up until two weeks my wife and I were one of you.
unfortunately, no longer
We have a dear, dear friend that will succumb to Covid-19 any day now...we are not related, but he is as close to us as any cherished uncle would be. He was moved to Hospice yesterday. We would spend time with him every week. He was outgoing, active, a wonderful sense of humor, drove his own car, kept up on the world news, had his wits about him, was very active in our church, played it safe regarding the virus. He is 90 years old. Not a perfect figure of health, but for 90 in damn good shape. 2 weeks ago he started having difficulty breathing. His stepson took him to the hospital. He lived with a stepson and his wife, both immediately were tested and neither of them tested positive for Covid-19. He was placed in the covid-ward in the hospital and put on a ventilator. No one has been able to visit him, he wouldn't have been able to read a card if you sent it too him....he will pass without his children, siblings and close friends that love him even being able to hold his hand or whisper "I love you" in his ear.....
There will be no public funeral service immediately following like in the past for all of us that will mourn his passing, which will make it even more difficult to reach closure
Covid-19 sucks....it leaves a huge hole that yearns to be comforted.
