Agree with quack, but hookworms are a minor player, 90% of cases are asymptomatic, the rest get anemia, but hardly ravaging anywhere. The most common infection worldwide is still Hepatitis B, followed by malaria, Hepatitis C and Dengue. There are 2 billion cases of Hep B worldwide, which in turn increases the risk for hepatocellular carcinoma, which at one point (and maybe still) was the most common malignancy in the world. The most common helminthic infection most likely remains shistosomiasis
Correction---Ascariasis is now the number one helminthic infection
