Trying to recall my 5 years as a DirecTV tech support trainer in a previous life (about 9 years ago).

Is this on your main TV or on a secondary TV or all? That is generally an "internal" connection error between the DVR (server) and additional box(s). Generally you have to power EVERYTHING down and restart DVR first then add'l boxes. Like I said though it's been 5 years since I left their training dept. and not sure what other equipment they are using. 99% it's an internal in house issue.
