Exactly right. And depending on the brand of the sensor, some can take up to 4 minutes (once covered) before they activate. Others activate almost immediately. This is to prevent nuisance trips when it’s cloudy during the day.

I’ve literally replaced dozens of these for people, and I learned early on, to NOT wrap the tape around the entire post, especially in the summer. You end up pulling off paint from the post

I’ve fashioned a pvc pipe cap and bungee cord for testing purposes.
