To say what is poor etiquette is a judgment call based on what is considered current etiquette and current fashion.
For example:
There was a time when a woman couldn't show her ankles in public. Was that proper etiquette? Heck I'm OK with seeing some ankles!
There was a time when men wore hats (Fedora's etc.) and suits at baseball games. Was that etiquette proper? I'm OK with wearing a baseball hat and a tee shirt at a baseball game.
The list goes on. Fashion changes. Etiquette changes. Language changes. We need to change with it.

Sorry Russ
I couldn't disagree with you more ! There is never any justification for wearing a hat in church or for that matter in a restaurant . It is only a sign of a lack of upbringing....Or just a don't givadamn attitude ..
Etiquette has nothing to do with it as their is no such thing as current etiquette ..Its either proper etiquette or it isn't .......Under cover (wearing of a hat or cap) inside a building of worship is never acceptable and the same goes for a restaurant.....I can just imagine what would happen if I sat at my momma's table and didn't remove my cap......
I wasn't going to respond to this thread but the more I thought about it the more I felt I had to give my opinion ,
